First Warn Weather Alert: 5:25pm 12/23/14 .Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Wednesday-Wednesday Afternoon. .Accumulating snow appears likely over the advisory area... 1-3 with locally higher amounts possible... Still a tough call on snow amounts as the system is still somewhat in question... For now, will leave it unchanged... .Rain will overspread the region overnight with the progression of rain changing to snow from North to South in the morning hours on Wednesday...Changeover once it begins as the colder air moves in...will be quick... Especially over the advisory area... .Snow amounts will vary greatly outside of the deformation zone... Regardless, it will mainly accumulate on grassy and elevated surfaces... .Visibility will also be reduced during the heavier bands of snow... The heaviest band appears to fall in Central/Northern IL and Eastern and East-Central MO. Look for changeover to occur from rain to snow after 9am across the advisory area... after noon across SE MO and SO IL. .This will be a wet snow with large hamster sized snowflakes. .Snow will end Christmas eve night with clearing skies expected.
