First month in Brazil (May) HOW TO SUCCEED IN MISSIONARY WORK - TopicsExpress

First month in Brazil (May) HOW TO SUCCEED IN MISSIONARY WORK WITHOUT REALLY TRYING And Elder Brown gathered together with his brethren and they did arrive in the land of Brazil. And they did gather together with other god-fearing men and women so that they might learn the ways of this land that was so strange to them. and they might speak with power and authority to the people who live there in 5:9 Well I’m really really really in BRAZIL! And its crazy. I’m sitting here in the CTM(MTC) typing this right now and it is crazy. I’ve already been in Brazil for about 10 days now and I don’t think it has sunk in yet. Portuguese is hard. It seems all that I forgot doesn’t matter because it wasn’t near good enough when I remembered it. And I have to admit its a little frustrating when you have to spend 30 minutes trying to ask a simple question. But I still am having fun. Elder Schramm, Wilson, and Elder Ferguson are in my district as well as sister empey and sister Dixon who were in our district in the Provo mtc. Also elder Giles is in our district. He wasn’t in my last district but he was in the mtc with us and he’s a pretty cool cat. Elder Lund is my companion. He served in Colorado. He’s pretty cool too. We like similar books so that’s good. They’ve had us go out and hand out book of Mormons 2 times now and it was cool, once at a giant bus station and once at a park. Both were awesome experiences. We got to go to the temple today, which was awesome as well. I haven’t been since about august and we got to do it in English thank goodness. We got to wander outside a bit today and I got a free cookie which was delicious (it was in a store somebody just handed it to me) this is going to be an interesting year definitely Love you all Elder Brown P.S sorry no pictures the CTM computers don’t support it ELDER BROWN IN THE GREAT VINHEDO and it came to pass that Elder Brown walked and many days did pass away 5:19 Well I’m finally in my first area and it’s been about a week. I have an American companion from Georgia, Elder Hanekamp. He’s been in Brazil for 8 months so he can talk to everybody. I’m in a city called Vinhedo. We live with the zone leaders. There’s only one district so we don’t have any district leaders and the rest of the zone is three sets of sisters. Needless to say I’ve been doing a lot of walking up hills down hills across streets lots and lots of walking. I love all the trees they have here. They’re all pretty cool. Our ward building has a building for the chapel and a building for the classrooms its quite strange. Nobody has clothes dryers, they just hang them out to dry and the showers are open concept. No curtain no nothing! But I’ve probably taught (well elder hanekamp mostly) more lessons than in the last year (ok probably not but it feels that way). The people here are pretty friendly but they don’t trust their neighbors with their stuff. Seriously all these houses are very fortified. These Brazilians are ready to defend against a siege or zombies.... they all have big walls and gates and most of the time you have to clap at their house since most don’t have door bells. But overall it’s been a good experience and if I don’t go home a skeleton after all this walking I don’t know what makes sense anymore! Love, Elder Brown ELDER BROWN VS. THE WORLD and elder brown went forth and taught unto many different peoples the word of the lord but he was slow of speech and was humbled 26:5 Well I’ve been in Vinhedo another week and it has been quite the experience. We have been teaching so many people but elder hanekamp keeps saying that this was a slow week ha-ha. But I got to go to the Campinas temple this week and that was awesome I’ve been inside 6 temples now. We went because elder toebe finishes his mission in two weeks but the temple was going to be closed. Elder toebe also gave me a hair cut. he’s Brazilian but he speaks super good English. The funny thing here is that all the houses look like they were just dropped there. doesn’t really seem to be any rhyme or reason to them it just seems like someone said I’m going to build a house here...and they did ha-ha. So I’m getting better at reading Portuguese that I know for sure but I seem just as lost when people are talking. And I will be honest it gets a little frustrating when I’m sitting there trying understand what’s being said and they mostly ignore me. And then I get told I need to talk more! But I need to try my best I’ll get it eventually I know I will with gods help I love you all Elder Brown
