First, my apologies for the delay in our update. The preliminary - TopicsExpress

First, my apologies for the delay in our update. The preliminary results have come back: There is no evidence of cell mediated, or antibody mediated rejection. This is WONDERFUL news. So were back to blaming the current state on dehydration. Evie was quite sick a few weeks ago (vomiting, fever, diarrhea) and ever since, her appetite has been diminishing and food tastes wrong. Her stomach also seems to have shrunk and it has become truly difficult for her to eat her target calories and drink her minimum daily fluid intake (around 1500 mls). There have been several times that she has valiantly tried, succeeded, and then without much (if any) warning, vomited, bringing her back to square one. Her official diagnosis is a case of acute tubular necrosis (ATN), resultant from the effects of coupling her weight loss and dehydration with her diabetes and transplant-patient needs--this led to reduced blood flow to Gus-Gus. It is a tough scenario, but the doctors believe Gus-Gus will be able to bounce back from this--however, they have warned that a re-occurrence would be irreversible. Shes currently getting fluids intravenously, and they plan for her to have surgery to re-install the gastrostomy tube (G-Tube/Feeding Tube) that she worked so hard to have removed two months ago. Weve spent quality time today with the dietician and the endocrinologists discussing how to adapt her insulin regimen to handle having tube feeds throughout the night again. We dont know yet when well be able to be discharged -- it depends on how quickly she can be squeezed onto the surgeons schedule and they can field test it overnight. Lastly, Evies blood pressure has steadily been increasing, clocking in moments ago at 157/107... disconcerting, but at least were at a good place to get help!
