Fitchburg Sentinel (MA) Monday, 14 December 1936 Page 2 Grain Dealer, Retired, Dies At Age of 81 Arthur Smith, retired grain dealer, died in his home at 163 Rollstone street Saturday. He was 81 years old. Born in Newport Landing, Nova Scotia, son of the late Thomas I. and Susan (Dodge) Smith, he came to Fitchburg and for 25 vears was active in the civic affairs of the town. He retired from the grain business in 1929. His wife was the late Ada G. (Sanford) Smith. He is survived by two daughters, Miss F. Merrill and Miss Vinnie; two sons, Fred W. and Edison M. , the latter a resident of Hartford; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Lavers of Virginia and Mrs. Minnie Meacham of New Hampshire; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Smith took an active part in civic affairs here for many years. He was an officer in the Grange, an organization of which he was a member for 50 years and was also actively interested in the First Methodist church. Services will be at the Sawyer funeral home Tuesday at 2 p m. Calling hours will be today fiom 2 to 5 and from 7 to 8 30 p m .
