I honestly think you have needlessly put yourself before the firing range of the Calvento fanatics. Now, please differentiate Tony Calvento from that group. TC does not necessarily mirror them and I dont think he is actively moulding them into that kind of group. Its just that Tony is acting like a magnet for a group that is looking for some authority figure that would help them configure a world view based on their existing belief system. That belief systems undercurrent is the supposition that there is injustice in the world and the Vhong Navarro case simply fits in as the validation of that belief system. Once the group has formed, the phenomenon of a groupthink starts to evolve. It is the gel that binds them together. Here is an excerpt of the Wikipedias definition of groupthink: Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people, in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision-making outcome. Group members try to minimize conflict and reach a consensus decision without critical evaluation of alternative viewpoints, by actively suppressing dissenting viewpoints, and by isolating themselves from outside influences. That definition fits whatever is going on now in the Calvento crowd. It is easily observable. Now what? Do we have to feel threatened? Nope. Groupthink is not an ideology. It has no real staying power when confronted with a difficult challenge. We are giving much significant to the fact the site has almost 30K members. The real significant number to me is the number of people who are visiting the site regularly, getting information from it but so far have kept themselves in the sideline not bothering to register as a follower. Im sure it is much much more than 30K. These are people who do not see themselves fitting into the groupthink. Of course, even among the 30K registered follower there are a lot of independent thinkers. You can identify them. That further reduces the core group who belong into the groupthink category. As you can see, it is very difficult to penetrate this group -- not even with the strongest arguments you can muster to change their thinking. But believe me. When and if they go to the streets, youll find more people in the malls and in the parks who will go on with their lives as usual as if the groupthink crowd does not exist.
