Florida Parrot Rescue is a 501c3, non-profit, ALL VOLUNTEER RUN - TopicsExpress

Florida Parrot Rescue is a 501c3, non-profit, ALL VOLUNTEER RUN avian rescue (no paid employees here!) and as such, we get a lot of questions on a regular basis about what individual people can do to help promote Florida Parrot Rescue. The easy answer is: LOTS! But you don’t have to be in a specific area of Florida to help and you don’t have to foster to help, we need you in many ways! Below are just some of the things we need help with NOW! If you can help out, please e-mail us at flparrotrescue@aol and please share this post where appropriate! Thank you!! Fundraising: We need people who can drum up donations (not just monetary, but items we can auction off at our fundraisers) – this can be done from the comfort of your home, at your own time and pace, and in a variety of ways! Letters, e-mails and phone calls included! We also really need someone to help organize thank-you’s to people and other organizations who donate to us and to make sure they get the proper credit they deserve in all of the arenas of advertising we use. This is very important so that people who donate know they are appreciated and will continue to support FPR! Grant writing: In conjunction with fundraising, we need an individual or several people who have experience with grant writing that are willing to write grants as needed to help support the rescue. We spend A LOT of money every year on vet bills, and adoption fees just do not cover it all, so this is one of our top priorities in order to make sure we can always provide in full for every single animal in our care. Writer: We need someone creative and who is a good writer to help come up with ideas for our newsletter and to help put it together. Our newsletter is released quarterly and is an important source of advertising for our donators and to disseminate information and education to our followers. Event volunteer: We need people to run and/or help work tables at various events around the state of Florida. You do not have to have a foster to volunteer, you just need to be willing to drive to an event, set up a table with some educational information, and talk someone’s ear off about either volunteering or fostering with us or about adoption and parrot education! We can teach you how to do this! Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, craigslist & Youtube: We need help promoting posts, events, fundraisers, needs and adoptable birds on our facebook page as well as on twitter, flickr and on youtube with videos. We also need help putting up ads to promote the need for fosters on craigslist. Any of this can be done from your home at any time of the day (especially on facebook where the pre-scheduling post feature is our friend!!) Transport and/or storage: We are often in need of people able to transport incoming birds from their original owner into foster and to either one of our vet offices or to their foster home. We also need people willing to pick up donations and either take them to a volunteers home to be stored or to store the items until needed. This includes cages, travel cages, donated food, and playstands. Fosters: We are always in dire need of fosters. We currently have over 100 birds in rescue and more than 60 on our waiting list that still need to come into rescue that we do not yet have room for. This can be from parakeets to macaws and everything in between! All vet costs are paid by the rescue (birds have to go to one of the veterinarians that we work with across the state) and cages are provided if needed. Fosters do provide appropriate food, love and training to the birds in their homes! Fosters can be anywhere in the state of Florida! Adoptions: Our adoption coordinator is an EXTREMELY busy person and could really use some help! This entails answers e-mail inquiries, phone calls and setting up home interviews with potential adopters and one of our volunteers. This can be done from anywhere in Florida from your computer! This person will have to sign specific contracts stating that personal information is private and between applicants and the rescue only. Outside of these needs, there is always more and always room for volunteers to grow and move around in the organization. Volunteers and/or fosters who have been with us for more than a year, do have the opportunity to move up into manager, coordinator, or officer positions within Florida Parrot Rescue. In fact, we really need help with adoptions right now. Our adoption coordinator is a VERY busy gal and she could use an assistant!! If you can help in any of these ways, please EMAIL US AT flparrotrescue@aol and please share this post where appropriate. Thank you!!!
