Following our e mail of yesterday all the evidence now suggests that the cull will start again very soon so Wounded Badger Patrols will be starting this Monday 8th September unless we contact you again to bring that date forward. Also, whilst GABS is not organising day walks this year, they are being organised by others. People are needed urgently by them for day walks over the weekend and for the next few weeks to look for badger activity and injured badgers during the day. They are now meeting each morning at 11am at the Newent Co-op ( ex Budgens) car park. Post code GL181PS. The full details of the evening Wounded Badger Patrols meeting points and sett monitors are on our website as below but headlines are: glosagainstbadgershooting.org/#/how-you-can-help/4580284625 Wounded Badger Patrols This year there will be two separate meeting places for the start of each patrol. Meeting point 1. West zone Wounded Badger Patrols 7.00pm meeting every night Meet in Newent at the Llewall Street Car Park GL18 1AN. carparkmaps.co.uk/carparks/view/13044 Its opposite the library, behind the co-op and the car park with public loos (closed at night) and recycling where we met last year. Meeting point 2. East zone Wounded Badger Patrols 7.00pm meeting every night Meet outside the Longford Inn Layby Tewkesbury Road, Gloucester GL2 9BE. bing/maps/#Y3A9NTIuNzcwMTU5fi0yLjM1Nzg3NSZsdmw9MTImc3R5PXImZW89MCZxPTUxLjg4MTExNyUwOS0yLjI0MDIxMg== All patrollers must be 16 or older and dogs (even on leads) tend to be unpopular with farmers so are really better left at home. Evening Sett monitors Where we are aware of large setts where we think the badgers are vulnerable, we have people monitoring those setts for long periods of the night looking for wounded badgers. This involves a lot less walking and driving than the evening patrols but this is a vital role in helping to save our badgers. If you think youd be able to spend some time focused around a particular sett that is vulnerable in anytime between dawn and dusk and havent already told us that please contact badgersettsafe@gmail with dates and times you could help and we’ll get back to you. Update on Police and Public safety Some of you will have seen that yesterday the police had a press briefing and have announced that there will be less police involved in overseeing the cull. We in GABS are concerned that the police do not intend to be taking a full and active role in maintaining public safety whilst shooters are wandering the area. We are making representations to the various bodies about our concerns. In the meantime we are saying to patrollers who feel under threat to call 999 as you would do in any other situation where you felt unsafe due to the action of others. Many thanks to everyone for all the support youre giving to Gloucestershires badgers.
