Following the defeats in Maharashtra and Haryana, Congress must reflect and act immediately. This is a fight for relevance and bold steps need to be undertaken to transform the party into what the people of India want. Firstly, it is time to bring forward young leaders by giving them responsibilities and holding them accountable for their acts. The positions of state Congress President must be rested in the hands of young and dedicated leaders. Sachin Pilots leadership in Rajasthan has ensured that the party is regaining its lost ground in the state. Secondly, it is time to remove from the party, leaders who have been charged and tainted in scams. They maybe reinducted once their names are cleared, but until then the party needs to communicate to the people that it will not tolerate corruption in any form. And finally, to connect with the people more strongly, we must change our campaign strategy. Due to the over harping of secularism, the majority community has become disillusioned with the party. People recognize Congress as a secular party. But they do not want to hear about it again and again. Overdoing something can become destructive and attacking our opposition on this front is proving to be counter-productive. Instead, our message should focus solely on the benefits of our schemes and development. It is time to act and I believe that Congress will soon regain its ground and people will bestow their faith completely in its leaders and their vision.
