Food Security Bill, 2013 Taking a major step in furtherance to the passing of the Food Security Bill, 2013 by Lok Sabha on August 26, 2013, the Rajya Sabha gave the green signal to the same on September 2, 2013. The said Bill proposes to ensure food and nutritional security to the people by providing wheat and rice at Rs 2 and Rs 3 per kg to about 81 crore people. Section 3 of the Bill provides right to receive foodgrains at subsidized prices by persons belonging to eligible households under Targeted Public Distribution System. The Bill gives special attention on nutritional needs of women and children. Chapter V of the Bill deals with women empowerment providing eldest women of household who are above 18 years of age to hold ration card being the head of the household. Also, Section 4 of the Bill deals with the maternity benefit of Rs. 6000 to pregnant women and lactating mothers and nutritious meal to pregnant women and children below 14 years of age. For the purpose of redressing grievances which can arise in implementation of such massive social justice programme, Section 14 provides for internal grievance redressal mechanism which includes call centres and help lines; and District Grievance Redressal Officers and State Food Commission for expeditious and effective mechanism. #SCC #Law Intellect #India Follow Us: https://twitter/LawIntellect
