Though sometimes we are segregated so viciously in the west that its almost viewed taboo as to even smile and say salam to your brother or sister. If you read the Seerah of the Prophet (saw) we dont find such ultra-conservative segregation between the Sahabah and Sahabiyat like we do in some of our circles and communities. As a consequence of this extremism our brothers dont know how to treat our sisters with respect and be there for her when she needs help, and vice versa. (The video is only 10 minutes.)
