For 3 or so hours, my Facebook newsfeed was treated to a friendly banter of school loyalists cheering their alma mater in the 2013 UAAP Cheer Dance Competition. For 3 or so hours in the middle of intense rivalry we managed to cheer each other up and then in the end unanimously celebrate the glory of, for and with the victors. If only we could be this magnanimous in all our ways. If only we could treat each fellow Filipino the way each Filipino student treated each other in victory and defeat. If only we all remembered what we were taught growing up, to be humble in victory, noble in defeat, kind to our fellows and have faith in The Lord our God, just like these college kids. If only we had these, then maybe there would be peace in Zamboanga, there would be no Janet Napoles, there would be no unfed, unhoused, uneducated Filipino. Lets take our cue from the kids at the UAAP. Look how they cheered each other through good and bad times, victory and defeat. Let us be humiliated by their magnanimity, insulted by their kindness, and moved to action by their unity.
