For Portland folks. This petition was initiated by a Portland high school teacher, low wage worker campaigner, fellow single payer activist and fellow Reed alum, Hyung Nam. Smiths raise is about 28%. For comparison, teachers got a little bit above COLA in the most recent contract, and the district simultaneously is laying off low wage staff. Nothing about Smiths work remotely justifies an increase on this scale. It is shame on the PPS school board that they did this. Meanwhile the egregious crony contract for Carole Smiths chum Yvonne Deckert for unspecified consulting with no deliverables for $15,000 per month for 20 hours/ week continues. It seems possible that Smith justifies her own egregious salary increase because shes still making less that the consulting contract on a pro-rated basis. Time to replace the five members of the Board who supported these outrages. . (Side note to friends -- I am using a *very* old computer due to problems with my usual one, and basically cant post to fb from the main interface due to browser problems & the high demands of fbs constant cycling and internal data monitoring/collection which I think are more than the old processor can handle. This sharing interface is working. Anyway, thats why the radio silence.)
