For a Father Who Loved to Ski Summer has only a handful of afternoons that still of mornings when a guy can steal away early enough to get to the Gorge before the wind. How many afternoons that still fall on days that don’t belong to wife, to work, or to the Lord? And just how many handsful of summer does his lifetime hold? For summer is short and the wind long. But here after. This is that afternoon. It is that still. Judge a man’s valor by his walk, his truth by his eyes. Judge his deeds by the callus of his hand. Judge how this man would fly by how he’d take a speedboat on his arm— the prettiest girl— dance her across, shatter that calm, split the water, that reservoir like glass. —Jon L Jensen
