For all Staff and Students: The winter weather is now upon us and we have already had a few days of frost at the University. The University’s Adverse Weather protocols are in place meaning staff and students will be advised if the University is going to be partially closed in the event of significant snow fall or very icy conditions on campus. When a frost or snow fall occurs main paths and roads around the University will be cleared and gritted as soon as possible and normally by 10am but icy patches may still occur due to low temperatures – please take care when walking on the paths and roads and only choose routes that are gritted and cleared. Minor routes will not be cleared. Maps will be available shortly showing the priority routes. We will post the latest information relating to the University opening on Studynet and the UH emergency website; uhemergency.co.uk In the event of adverse weather all those travelling to the University are asked to take extra care and stick to main roads wherever possible. Further tips for drivers include: check weather and travel news, allow extra time , take a torch, warm clothes, boots and an emergency snack. For more information about which roads are gritted in Hertfordshire please visit; hertsdirect.org/salting In addition the Met office has some handy advice at The Get Ready for Winter website at metoffice.gov.uk/getreadyforwinter
