For almost the entire time I’ve been on facebook, I’ve operated under a strict no political posts policy, sometimes with great difficulty. I don’t think websites like this foster any of the actual discourse that political discussions need. Instead, it’s just a place for people who already agree to pat each other on the back about how right they are, or a place for people who have already made their minds up about everything to do a lot of talking, while ensuring they don’t have to do any listening. I don’t think that either of these approaches are helpful at all… Buuuuut, I think I’ve earned one free pass.
