For anyone who maybe doesnt know, the #AggieRing is an almost sacred symbol in the world of Aggiedom. It is the Senior Ring of the graduating classes. You MUST be classified a Senior to be able to order it and there is only ONE place you can order it...through the Asso. of Former Students. But it does not change over the years, as some class rings may, nor does anyone really have a choice in what the design will look like (not that I know of ANY Aggie who would want to change it) There are subtle differences such as the finish you can get...either antiqued or none at all. there is the difference of whether you want a diamond in it and of course your name engraved inside and your class year on the top. Other than that everyone has the same ring and EACH AND EVERY thing on the ring holds special meaning: from the Texas and American flags to the shield to the cannon. Everything has a meaning. If you wanna know all about it I can get that information for you. When I got my ring 26ish years ago there was no ceremony. I simply went to the Association building, showed them my ID, signed for it, put it on and made sure it fit and walked out. SMILING LIKE A CRAZY PERSON but just walked out (I actually think I had to go to work right after that) Well today it has evolved into a huge celebration. Getting your Aggie Ring is a big accomplishment. And there is new commitment that is expected out of you. The ring is recognized world wide (ok, maybe most of those people around the world are Aggies as well, but still) and the new wearers are charged to know that they are a bigger part of the Aggie family and what they do and say can and sometimes will reflect on the whole Aggie family. Over the past 26ish years of having my ring I have been very proud and honored to wear it each and every day (other than a couple of weeks I had to get it sized) and love telling people, when asked, that my ring is from TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY. I knew for some time now that Dylan Browning was to be getting his OWN ring this fall and when he texted and told me the exact date and that he wanted me to come for the ceremony was an honor just by itself. On Friday morning before we left to get his ring he asked me to present it to him and put it on for him. Look people, for an Aggie to be asked to do this is a HUGE thing. For him to have ask ME absolutely overwhelmed me. I am not sure I have EVER done anything, apart from church, that has honored and blessed me more than this single thing. I am totally aware that I did not deserve it but still I was honored beyond true words to have done it. I am SO proud of you Dylan and the man you have and are becoming. I am glad God has put you in my life and I am glad I am in yours. Your are in inspiration to SO many people young and old and I cannot wait to see what Gods plans for you are. Congratulations on your Aggie Ring. Wear it well, Wear it proud, Wear it always. GIGEM!
