For the last eight weeks we have been with Nikai 24/7. A dedicated group of pup nannies, including Wolf Center staff, volunteers, like myself, and one German shepherd, have had a lot of sleepless nights and an amazing opportunity to be a part of his surrogate family. After meeting through the fence every day for the last few weeks, today Nikai got to be with Alawa and Zephyr for their very first play date!!!! Nikai is a captive bred grey wolf (Canis lupus) and could not be released to the wild. He will live happily at the Wolf Conservation Center as one of their ambassador wolves, helping to educate people of the vital role wolves play in the environment, the problems of trying to own a wolf or wolf dog cross (illegal in most states), and helping to fight for the rights of wolves and other endangered species.
