For the next few weeks I will be introducing you to the Stillbrave 100. My motivation, their smiles, their fights, their lives.....and in some cases their deaths. Get to know them reach out to them and their families let them know that we care!! This is Taylor Fish Mile#6 On February 15th 2013, Taylor was at a birthday party and suddenly collapsed, paramedics fought to resuscitate him. They managed to get his pulse. After what seemed like hours, Southampton paediatric intensive care unit arrived to assess Taylor, all we remember was being told that he may not survive the 30 minute journey to Southampton general hospital. When we arrived at Southampton hospital and after a scan, we were told Taylor had a brain stem tumour and 56 minutes of lack of oxygen to his brain was catastrophic. The next 72 hours was an emotional roller coaster, we were told on the Saturday he had 10% chance of survival but we were pinning all our hopes on the red lines appearing on the ventilator monitor, taking Taylor off sedation and drip feeding him was all good signs and Taylor was fighting. Sunday, he was back to being heavily sedated and had to have a drain put in his head to drain the fluid build up from where the tumour was not letting all the blood flow. Monday, when we were touching his arm he would do a little shoulder roll, which we thought, was a good sign and Taylor would be ok. They consultants decided to do a MRI scan to check all their suspicions………….they were confirmed, our happy, fun loving little boy was never going to recover. On Monday 18th February 2013 at 5:45pm, 16 days before his 9th Birthday, Taylor grew his angel wings and left his mummy and daddy completely heartbroken. No mother and father EVER expects to be making their child’s funeral arrangements and Taylor had to have the best…………As always! We want to make other parents aware of Brain Stem Tumours, as we had never heard of this type of Brain Tumour.
