For the second time in South African history, white people are experiencing the hopelessness of being in the minority and at the mercy of irresponsible, unfeeling government. In the early years of the nineteenth century, society in the Cape was marked by antagonism between the local white community (mostly descended from the same small group of seventeenth-century Dutch, French, and German settlers) and a largely disinterested and exploitative metropolitan ruler. The racial divide was reflected in the pattern of land ownership, the authoritarian structure of labour relations and the arrogant disregard of the British for the wellbeing of the settlers. Today white people are very aware of what the ANC is doing to the country but afraid of what might happen if they voice their opinions too strongly or try to do anything which may alter the status quo. The irony of the situation is that the present government will only be removed when the very people who elected it revolt and oust the Elitist rulers. The Agony is that the usurpers will inherit a bankrupt economy and will therefore be more reckless and envious of the white population; a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire,
