For those of us who find old barns interesting, appealing and even noble. A couple of rules: Barns that are old MUST be the main subject of any post. The focus here is barns, not farm houses or even other non-barn outbuildings. Post only photographs taken by you. Do not post photos that you found elsewhere online. Get out. See some old barns for yourself. Posts that are promotional in nature will be deleted along with the person who posted. The administrators prefer that people join this group of their own volition. Please dont add people yourself even though that is possible. We will always reject those requests. More a suggestion than a rule but posting more than a couple barns a day will diminish the impact of your posts. Anything above that starts to become white noise. Pace yourself. Quotes: It will not always be summer; build barns. (Hesiod, Works and Days) A barn shall harbour heaven, A stall become a shrine. (Richard Wilbur, A Christmas Hymn) A jackass can kick a barn down, but it takes a carpenter to build one. (Sam Rayburn) You are the one Solid the spaces lean on, envious. You are the baby in the barn. (Sylvia Plath, Nick and the Candlestick) The circular form of building is and always has been and always will be, the ultimate in architectural form as well as the strongest shapes ever conceived by man. The Creator made and fashioned every known or tangible thing after the circular form and to travel and function in circular or elliptical orbits....by reason of circular motion and because of the circular shape of all terrestrial and existing things (Benton Steele, round barn builder in the Midwest in the early 20th century.) If a farmer fills his barn with grain, he gets mice. If he leaves it empty, he gets actors. (Walter Scott) He looked tired, like he wanted to sleep for a long time in a barn somewhere, in Kansas. I wanted to sleep there, too. (James Tate, The New Ergonomics) When your barn is well filled all snug and secure, Be thankful to God and remember the poor. (Lettering in stone has been moved from a barn in Erin Township, Ontario, to a stone wall at Rockwood Academy, Rockwood, Ontario.)
