For those of you who watched last nights intense soccer game - TopicsExpress

For those of you who watched last nights intense soccer game between Ivory Coast and Greece, and are of the opinion that the last-minute penalty decision was a bad call, I did a bit of research on soccer rules and also sourced the opinion of a soccer coach to get some closure on the decision. If you have a look at the replay Ive included in the link below, you will see that the Ivory Coast defender stuck out his leg and obstructed the Greek striker Samaras as he was about to take his shot. The defender not only failed to make contact with the ball, but he also impeded Samaras progress. According to soccer rules, this is classified as a Non-contact foul, and it was thus worthy of the penalty decision. The fact that Samaras milked the opportunity by going to ground so easily saddens me, but it is totally irrelevant. I feel sorry for the Ivory Coast that they had to lose like that in the dying minutes of the game. I would have much preferred it if Greece scored a winner during standard play. But lets also remember that Greece had 3 shots on goal that hit the posts, so it isnt fair to claim that the Ivory Coast were robbed last night. It was a very close game, and Greece were the worthy victors. If you have a different opinion then I invite you to share it, but please do so politely and objectively, and back up your arguments with soccer rules where possible. https://vine.co/v/Mtnxa6HXg7p
