For those who dont really know what this Foreign Accent Syndrome -Awareness Group is, I point each of you to the discriptor that has been there for many years. If you are on a mobile device there may be an arrow right next to the group name; if on a laptop perhaps a tab that says about this group. In case you cant find it here is what it says: Foreign Accent Syndrome Awareness Public Group Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS) is an extremely rare disorder of the brain whose main distinguishing characteristic is noticed when the sufferer suddenly starts to speak his/her native language, but with a noticibly foreign sounding accent. Some of the apparent causes are stroke, TIAs, Hemiplaegic Migraines, neurological disorders such as M.S. and other head trauma. Less that 100 medically reported cases... ever... in the world. Many of the sufferers refer to their real or old voice being their native before FAS voice; and then post FAS event as their new voice or accented speech. Some sufferers have a relatively static change; i.e. Midwestern U.S. speaking now with Eastern European accent; U.K. now sounding French or Italian. And still others have vasillating accents: ie. from U.S. may be accented French in morning, Australian at noon or five minutes later sound Italian. ALL of these are very noticible changes to their native speech and make them sound as if they were a foreigner. PURPOSE OF THIS PAGE: FAS is so rare that even many medical personnel have never heard of it! This makes proper diagnosis even more difficult. As more cases are being reported, the desire of this page is to build a bridge of understanding; research, share what we are discovering, to allow questions and answers in an open format. NOTE: Only members can post to the group and anyone who will abide by the above parameters is welcome to become a member of this open group :0) Foreign accent syndrome --Nowhere does it say that we exist to say make sure that someones happy with us at all times, nor does it define support as refusing to address erroneous behavior. If YOU believe you are not being supported because you need people to always agree with you, or if you accuse people of tearing down someone but refuse to discuss your accusation of others then perhaps YOU dont understand this. If you look at all criticism as attacks, I believe you will find it interesting to note that without correction every child would grow up a self-centered, selfish, Its-all-about-me, blaming others all the time for their own misgivings, miserable when the world doesnt stop to make sure they are happy, spoiled brat. Dont believe me? Study history and Human Behavior 101. We ALL, every single one of us make mistakes. There is only one man in all of history that didnt, and He died on the cross to take away our sins and show us all of us how it hurts to forgive the harm that is done to God and other people. It has been asked is this a Christian Group? No. It is not exclusive to any religion or lack of religious belief. However, many people of different faiths are members...Christisns among them. I, Ellen happen to be Christian and so endeavor to live my life as Christ demonstrated and the Holy Bible instructs. If having stated that I am a Christian I act contradictory to Gods instructions then I value others pointing that out to me. Ultimately I believe God created all of us, even those who do not acknowledge Him. I believe that every life is valuable and deserving of respect and that one of the greatest universal truths is that of love ...doing unto others as youd have done to you. Also known as karma, spreading good vibes, well-wishing, etc. regardless, be KIND. Just as important be TRUE. Even little lies designed to make something appear other than it is, is still a lie. As we told our daughter, if you admit to me that you did something wrong and apologize for having done it, wish you could take it back, are now stating that you will try not to do that in the future (repent) and ask for forgiveness or in other ways try to reconcile, you will surely be forgiven. There may still be consequences, but our relationship remains intact. However, if you LIE to me, refuse to acknowledge the wrong, try to justify and actually try to turn the situation to make it look like you are being unjustly singled out and victimized and refuse to acknowledge the truth...you WILL suffer. Not because of me or any other judge per se, but because there is a true judge who does see your heart, motives and who cannot be deceived. He assures us of true and right justice. So as a Christian I live all people, feel a responsibility to love all people with a devotion to be there in both good and bad times, so long as the other person chooses to abide accordingly. I dont honor false accusations, manipulation or being mean. Period. I am not afraid to stand up to anyone at any time and give an accounting for my words or deeds because I live at all times true to these principles. As a communications specialist and having gone through training as A Christian Counsellor I realize a greater passion as to what it means to be of benefit to people...not for the all the time happiness, but for their betterment. That is why I make myself available as I can to facilitate, comfort, & yes, when needed counsel and correct...out of genuine love.
