For those whove known me long enough or well enough, this probably - TopicsExpress

For those whove known me long enough or well enough, this probably doesnt come as a big surprise… BUT… Tomorrow morning March 31st on the steps of City Hall, Im announcing my intention of running to be a candidate of the Vancouver Green Party — for City Councillor in the November civic election. I wont get into a big spiel here but at the core of what I believe is that the focus and responsibility of our civic government needs to prioritize the people who live here, and that a healthy democracy needs a diversity of voices at the Council table to ensure that it does. We have some big challenges: In the face of the general condition of precarity that is so overwhelming in Vancouver, we need to ensure affordability, homes, and a city where everyone can thrive. Im sick of seeing my friends squeezed out of the city because they can no longer afford to live here. We need to do a better job of supporting the arts and small business and shake the No Fun City label once and for all. We need to strengthen and empower our communities and citizens to build a sustainable and resilient city where people come before profits. I would appreciate your support: if you would like my page, share it, and please message me with any questions, suggestions or advice. Well be fleshing out the platform over the coming months and Id love to hear what you think. Well also need volunteers and financial support. If you would like to join the Vancouver Greens ($10, cheap) or make a donation to my campaign: check details on the page and drop me a line. Unlike other big civic parties, we wont take donations from developers or $25,000 a plate luncheons organized by Bob Rennie - so we really need that grassroots support.
