Fortunately over the weekend, it was relatively uneventful especially regarding rescues. TRAFFIC OFFENCES - about 5.30pm on Sunday afternoon, Katoomba Police stopped a vehicle for RBT. The 38yr old driver from St Helens Park was unable to produce a licence and subsequent inquiries revealed that he was a disqualified driver until 2015 for various traffic offences. He was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear at Katoomba Local Court in August 2013. Over the weekend, Blue Mtns HWP issued 7 drivers with penalty notices to drivers for Exceed Speed Limit - Over 30kph, with the offences occurring across the mountains. On Friday evening, in response to complaints from the public a HWP unit intercepted a van being driven west along the Great Western Hwy. The driver subsequently failed a road side breath test and was arrested. He was taken to Springwood Police Station where he returned a breath analysis result of 0.162. It was also established that he was also a disqualified driver. He was charged with these offences & granted conditional bail to appear at Penrith LC in 3 weeks time. While some of you may have strong opinions on what should happen to some drivers, there are procedures & due process which must be complied with.
