Four amazing-looking entries from Dan Murphy! Not sure if we can include the Old Fashioned in the comp as we dont do caravan tea yet - though its on the cards(!) - but the recipe looks like a winner! Old Fashioned: 50ml Bernheim Original Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey 1-2 drops Angostura bitters Russian Caravan tea syrup to taste Using a wheated bourbon means it has less of the charred oak notes of a normal bourbon, but the Russian Caravan tea gives it a subtle smoky kick, and the tea complements the slightly sweet and malty flavour of the wheated bourbon. Negroni: 2 parts Sipsmith Lond Dry Gin 2 parts Martini rosso vermouth 1 part Campari 1 part strong red berry and hibiscus tea The slightly tart flavour and mouthfeel of the hibiscus tea brings out the sweetness of the vermouth and the bitterness of the Campari. Caipirinha: 50ml Leblon Cachaça 2 teaspoons sugar cane juice 20ml Jasmine silver needle tea Twist of lime The sugar cane juice has a subtler, gentler sweetness than the normal sugar used in a regular caipirinha which complements the fresh, sweet aroma of the jasmine tea. Manhattan: 50ml Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond rye bourbon 10ml Martini rosso vermouth 10ml red berry and hibiscus tea syrup 1-2 drops Peychauds Bitters The sweet, fruity red berry and hibiscus tea syrup adds a layer of depth to play off against the spiciness of the rye bourbon, which is paired with the classic partner of Peychauds Bitters.
