Frequently Asked Questions Q) Do You remove hiss and pop from Vinyl recordings during the transfer process? (A) Generally Yes all the main bad bits that you dont want to hear are removed from the track in post production. Majority of the time vinyl recordings only contain a disturbing level of noise when records become dirty, damaged and/or improperly stored over time. All records I transfer are professionally cleaned before they are recorded to ensure maximum playback quality. If the record is heavily damaged it cannot be repaired to factory condition. Minor imperfections can be doctored and enhanced with the use of software filters but this can sometimes have a negative effect on some recordings particularly more modern vinyl records. Majority of the time filters are used with absolute limitation and only used if they need to be . Rumble and stylus rolling sounds are always removed in every recording as this is a technical flaw that is usually always unwelcome from listeners of vinyl and it also hinders the dynamic range of the compact disc format. It all depends on the source material as to what can and what will be done in the safest way possible and what will be considered too much fixing. Less is more is the general rule, e.g. well cared for records wont need that much noise removed etc, but a heavily played or dirty record may need a higher noise filter setting applied etc. Subsonic noise is always filtered to prevent damage to speakers, headphones and amplifiers. (Q) How much does it cost to transfer just one Vinyl Single or EP? (A) the cost is as follows Basic $5 per single (A & B Sides) excludes jewel case Deluxe $8.50 per single (A & B Sides) excludes jewel case Ultimate $11.90 per single (A & B Sides) includes jewel case and full colour disc and artworkBEST VALUE!!! Q) Do you offer Vinyl Records in FLAC or WAV format? (A) I can arrange this for you at an extra cost of $7.00, FLAC/WAV files will be copied to a DVD Data disc for playback on Mac, PC or compatible home entertainment devices. FLAC/WAV files will be in the 24bit 88.2KHz Stereo format. Higher Resolution sampling rates above 88.2KHz are not currently available at this time and have been researched to have no additional quality or immediate noticeable benefits from a Vinyl Record recording, 88.2KHz is exactly twice the sonic resolution of CD therefore mathematically it dithers all tracks perfectly to CD every time, there is no loss or error because there is no need for additional conversion parameters etc. Q) Can I get extra CD copies ? (A) copyright law in Australia permits an individual to make up to 2 backup copies of a vinyl record recording which they own, so yes we can make you a max of two copies per vinyl record transfer . The cost of an extra CD copy is a flat fee of $5 for basic record transfer service item and $7 for any deluxe or ultimate record transfer service packages you chose for your record transferring needs. Extra CD copies (besides the original transfer disc) do not include jewel case/sleeve and/or artwork inserts of any kind. Artwork inserts and jewel case for an extra CD Copy can be purchased for a flat fee of $3.50. So an extra copy of a ultimate transfer with jewel + Printed Artwork will cost the following $18.95 + 7.00 + 3.50 = $29.45 for two full identical copies of an ultimate service transferred album. Q)What Kind of Cartridges/Styli do you use in the transferring process? (A) I use over 7 different high quality cartridges from 3 brands Ortofon, Stanton & Audio Technica and I switch between the different cartridges and styli depending on the condition and complexity of each record. I only use the best for the recording process. I use Spherical, Elliptical, Fine Line and Shibata styli. (Q) why choose you for my LP conversions ? A) I offer a more personalized, hands on service, as I strive for the absolute best results in every Vinyl Record transfer I do, I dont automate anything, I sit there and listen to every single track that is being recorded and focus on what Im working with from start to finish, I even write a detailed report for you so you know what to expect when you receive your finished CD(s)… I am on average 40-70% cheaper than most local or interstate transfer services because I focus only on Vinyl Record transfers and nothing else that doesnt mean you get cheap inferior products, I keep the prices low and fair because I can. From cleaning to mastering the finished product its a very delicate and lengthy process, but totally worth it. Q) Can you print my own custom art (A) Yes I can print your custom cover art as long as the images are high quality otherwise they will not print with great results, you can give me artwork via email, CD or USB. (Q) What happens if I want to convert a Record to a CD but it has a couple of scratches on it. If the record has surface scratches that are severe e.g. “groove deep” then the recorded track will unfortunately come with skips or pops equivalent to what a CD does when it’s heavily scratched it will skip to the next available part of the song that is undamaged. I can apply filters that will make the skip less noticeable or hardly unnoticeable depending on how bad the damage is, if it’s a small click type scratch it can be easily erased in software, if it’s a few seconds or more it won’t be able to be erased because of the complexity of the damage the software won’t be able to make up audio information that is non existent lost etc. Q) What happens if the CD you gave me gets scratched or damaged? (A) If you or someone else damages your Compact Disc there is not much I can do on my end to repair or fix the CD, Case or Artwork without it coming to a greater cost to either you or myself so I recommend you purchase an additional copy of your album at time of transfer, cost is greatly discounted, if you just want an extra disc without case or artwork this can be easily arranged also at time of order. Q) Can you make CD compilations of vinyl records? (A) I can make a compilation CD from multiple tracks from multiple records however the cost of doing business will be higher at a cost of $3.35 per song e.g. a produced CD with 13 tracks will cost $43.55 including Printed CD, Colour artwork etc. This option is perfect for weddings, special occasions, DJ’s etc and at under $50 for a highly customised personal compilation CD its still fantastic value. For an additional flat fee of $ per compilation I can even add cross-fades to every single track so the music plays non-stop. GREAT for Parties and Special Events and hey it beats paying for a DJ who more than likely doesnt have anything from your vinyl collection. Q)Are your services RIAA Equalized ? (A) Yes all transfers are RIAA Equalized to maintain the best high fidelity sound possible without all the added surface noise of the record, I can guarantee the finished transfer will sound amazing on your home stereo, car stereo, iPod/MP3 player and even in medium to large size venues over high fidelity loudspeakers you will be amazed when you hear the results. more FAQS will be posted soon, keep asking questions and hey if youve got a question send it through the Facebook page, email or post and Ill answer it as soon as possible. thanks again for your business and support. - Chris
