Friday January 16 In the poetry of Hawaiian songs, there are many references to nature. Flowers, ferns, and birds are often meant to represent a loved one. Pua Tuberose is one such song, for in the first verse it says, the sudden remembrance comes to me, for the sweet tuberose, unforgettable. It is important for the hula dancer and musician to know the words and meaning of the song and intent of the composer. In each issue of our HulaStudio Magazine, Puakea Nogelmier writes about Hawaiian language, poetry, and demonstrates proper pronunciation of the lyrics to songs. The functions on the iPad make it easy and fun. A great way to combine culture and technology! Aloha, Kanoe
