Friday, July 11, 2014 - Luis Suarez to Spanish giants, FC Barcelona, is done deal, Liverpool have confirmed. The controversial striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Catalan giants for the better of the summer. The Reds are thought to have agreed a fee in the region of £75m and the 27- year old will put pen to paper a five-year deal subject to a medical at Camp Nou next week. A club statement read: Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer. We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield. Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future. Suarez enjoyed a successful 2013-14 season where he plundered 31 goals to lead Liverpool to within touching distance of their first premier league title in 24 years. His exploits saw him won both the PFA Player of the Year Award and PWA Player of the Year. However, his future at the club came under scrutiny after biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup and for his troubles, he was handed a four-month ban from any football activity by FIFA. That resulted in Barcelona stepping up their efforts to sign the striker, and after over a week of talks, the Catalan giants have secured the signature of the controversial forward, who will wear the number nine shirt when he returns to action later this year.
