Friday, July 4th - Special Fourth of July Studio Snapshot: Profile of a Summer Camp Scholarship Student Student Profile: Jocelyn Olson Jocelyn, age 8, was a great candidate for our military kids scholarship, because her dad, Blake, is a member of the Colorado Army National Guard. He is away for a minimum of one weekend a month, plus 2 weeks a year, with the possibility of additional training or deployments. Jocelyn loves gymnastics and has been participating with a competitive team. Her parents support her passion gymnastics, but also wanted to show her some of the other ways she could take advantage of the strength she has built. The week that she attended camp aligned with one of Blakes week-long National Guard commitments, so she had something positive to focus on while he was away. Over the course of 5 days, Jocelyn learned aerial skills on Fabric, Sling, and Trapeze. The theme for the week was The Rainforest, so the campers studied different animals and vegetation native to rainforests. They each picked and developed a character for a culminating performance. Jocelyn loved having the opportunity to perform for the first time in her life. Her mother, Michelle, says, This scholarship meant the world for our family. Without this scholarship, Jocelyn would never have been able to attend a camp for financial reasons but also, never would have been able to be introduced to aerial dance at Frequent Flyers. Jocelyn often gets overlooked as serving her country because she does not have the uniform, but has served and sacrificed all of her 8 years into this life. Thank you for giving Jocelyn a chance to be recognized for her sacrifice. Happy Fourth of July everyone!
