Friday, June 07, 2013 Revelation 21:1,4 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea….And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. I used to love our summer vacations when I was a child. We would go to a place called Bonita Springs. It was a remote, hidden gem. We stayed across the road from the beach in a duplex. It was rare for anyone to be on that beach. Even on a Sunday I could count the people walking on the beach with two hands and often with one. There was an inlet right down the road and an inland channel right behind us. During our first summer there they were building a causeway to connect it to Fort Myers. That summer starred a young couple who were in love. Her family owned the duplexes we stayed in and he lived in Orlando. He would fly his plane and land on the unfinished road and I recall seeing them walking across the bridge and holding hands in the evening. Even though I was but a child I thought that was really cool. I dearly loved that place so recently I looked to see if I could find it on the satellite and I think I did. I think I did because I looked in the right spot but what I found was nothing like I remember. My paradise was filled with houses and condominiums. It wasn’t paradise anymore. While many call the Genesis account of creation a myth I believe it to be true. If God is who He says He is, then He could easily create a universe that appeared billions of years old in six days. On the eight day after creation Adam would have walked in old growth forests. He would have looked up to the heavens and seen the stars and galaxies we see. In His mind no doubt, it looked as ancient to him as it did to us and the best part is that it was perfect. No death, no sickness, no corruption and decay. Yet in spite of the perfection that surrounded him, Adam sinned and death and corruption enter the world. Therefore, all we can do is look back and long for the paradise that is our rightful heritage. All seems lost until one comes to the realization that God in His infinite love and mercy sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty of sin. The good news is that one day Jesus will come again and restore the paradise lost. According to scripture God will create a new heaven and a new earth and those who love Him will inhabit it. Many will laugh and say I am a fool. Others will mock me and my beliefs but I look back and see paradise
