Friend of the page shares concerns with 4-ever caps. What has your experience been? (From Debi) For my friends that can produce, meats, jams and jellies. I will strongly urge you to not use 4ever recaps. Their caps have a very high failure rate, even among experienced canners. Not newbies like me. Thus they have decided to re design them, instead of recalling all of their caps on the market. Simply, the caps unseal. For those of you not using current standards, and still storing your canned products with rings on, you might not notice this. Leaving the rings on can create a false seal. This of course can lead you to serve your family a jar of botulism, or find your product full of mold or other little nasties. I am all for saving money. I am all for preserving the good and yummy stuff from my garden. I am all for buying meat in bulk, paying less and preserving it, and all for making huge pots of soup to preserve for those fast food nights, or simply nights when I dont feel like cooking, but dont want to feed my family crap. Because of research, I dont buy Walmart jars and lids (made in China) as they have a high failure rate, including breaking and lids buckling. Yes, they are cheaper than Ball or Kerr, but obviously, the broken jars in the canner, or buckled lids isnt something I want to deal with. The bottom line is while it is nice to save a few pennies here and there, or hell, a few bucks here and there, my families safety means more to me than a dollar or two. I remember calling my daughter in a panic and shame after I had canned a wonderful soup, asking her to dump all of the jars.... it had some hominy it it and that isnt safe to can. I would rather suffer the shame of my having to call her and tell her to toss it, than sit beside my Grandchilds hospital bed watching them fight for their life, because I canned (added something) I should not have. In short, 4ever recaps are a BAD idea. The product is on the market without adequate or proper testing. They wont recall their bad product. Just sell you new, redesigned products. Hmmmmmm, has the new redesigned product been tested? Or is this just another profit driven scheme?
