Friends - please support the Puppy Mill Bill - This bill is in the Senate agriculture committee. Our Senator Stuart is a member. If you haven’t already done so, please ask him to support it. lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?141+ful+SB228 This Bill will put in place important measures requiring pet stores to disclose the origins of puppies being sold in pet stores, which will help consumers be more aware of whether their local pet store is supporting puppy mills. It will also help consumers recoup expenses if a puppy they purchase becomes ill and give them the right to return such puppy, which is not something that most pet stores currently allow. This Bill is a very important step in addressing the inhumane treatment of puppies being sold in pet stores across Virginia. In 2013, more than 1,000 puppies were imported into Virginia for sale in pet stores. The vast majority of these puppies came from the Midwest (puppy mills) and traveled across many states to be sold, while our local shelters euthanized hundreds of puppies due to overcrowding.
