From 1903 Canton, Ohio. CORPSE SAT FOR HOURS AT TABLE IN RESTAURANT Strange Death of Alfred Eggars, Well Known Canton Character Ate Sunday Dinner and Expired Alfred Eggars, 48 years old, died of dropsy at Martin Henry’s restaurant Sunday afternoon. Mr. Eggars was a watchmaker by trade and had worked in several shops in town during the past ten years. Going into Henry’s place Sunday about 1 o’clock, Eggars ordered a meal and sat down to eat. After finishing the meal, he did not arise. No attention was paid to this until about 5 o’clock in the evening, when a customer noticed his peculiar attitude and called attention to him. On closer investigation, it was found that he had been dead for some time and Coroner Schiltz was hastily summoned. The corpse was removed to Miller & Blanchard’s morgue. Eggars was familiarly known about town as “Fritz” and had lived in Canton about 15 years.
