From Bashabi Fraser, exciting event coming up... Dear Friends, We are very fortunate to have Ms Sagorika Jamali, the internationally acclaimed exponent of Rabindrasangeet (Tagore Songs) from Bangladesh, who will be sharing the magic of Tagore’s music and poetry next Sunday at a charity event. Sagorika studied Tagore Music at Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata, and her Gurus include Prof Maya Sen and Prof Swagata Lakshmi Dasgupta. Sagorika is a Bangladesh Betar (national radio) artist and has considerable teaching and performing experience. She is on the Faculty of Shanta Moriam, Department of Rabindra Sangeet at the Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts in Dhaka. Sagorika will be accompanied by the Scottish tabla artist, James Iremonger. The afternoon of Tagore songs will be introduced in English by His Excellency, the Bangladeshi High Commissioner, Mr Mohamed Mijarul Quayes. It is being hosted by the Dr Wali Tasar Uddin and Mr Foysol Choudhuri of the Scottish Bangladeshi community, to raise awareness of the Scottish Centre of Tagore Studies (ScoTs) at Edinburgh Napier University.
