From Jim Messina ~ I was awakened this morning with a phone call - TopicsExpress

From Jim Messina ~ I was awakened this morning with a phone call that Larry Sims has passed away. As most of you know Larry was the original bass player and singer in Loggins and Messina. He, Merle Bregante and I had meet while performing in POCO at the Golden Bear located then in Huntington Beach. Larry and Merle were performing in a group called the Sunshine Company, a wonderful California based performing act with voices that put goose bumps on your body. Here is a link to one of there albums that featured Larry Sims as well as a recording that someone posted https://youtube/watch?v=XbUXPL5zs7U I will post two recordings from the L&M catalog that featured Larry’s voice. The first song “Keep Me in Mind” I originally wrote for me to sing. However, Larry’s voice seemed like a better fit to the song given Larry beautiful tone and his ability to hold long notes out with such ease. I asked him to sing the song on our Motherlode album and he agreed. The second song Larry is singing is a song entitled “Hello Mary Lou” originally recorded by Ricky Nelson. Kenny and I released an L&Ms album entitled So Fine.” A tribute album (recorded long before tribute albums were fashionable to do) that featured recording artists whose music had been a great influence upon both Kenny and I growing up. In an effort to pay tribute to both James Burton’s guitar solo and tone and Ricks great vocal performance, I felt the song also needed a voice that could do the same for Ricks wonderful performance of the song. So once again I asked Larry Sims to take on the task. And what a wonderful ob he did indeed. Larry will be forever missed for he was an important and integral part of my musical success in life. We own all those great high harmony blends on the original Loggins and Messina recordings to Larry. May he rest in peace.
