From Joseph P Nelson: Just watched the latest Cosmos. Each episode, IMHO, is better than its predecessor. I didnt think I was going to be able to say that after the first episode. I thought that the graphics in the debut were fantastic, the artwork was incredible and the production values were top-notch. But I missed Carl Sagan. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, I was thinking, was a formidable figure in the world of science, popular and otherwise, but he was no Carl Sagan. Im beginning to change my mind. Tyson is grappling with issues that I never expected him to even mention -- given the awesome power of the Christian right in this country. On the one hand, Im tempted to say, Its about effing time! In fact, it really is way past time that primetime television showed up the anti-science crowd for what they are: a steaming bunch of ignoramuses trying to drag this country back to the Dark Ages. On the other hand, I have to admit that even though this plain speaking about creationism is long overdue, it takes a great deal of courage and fortitude to take on those very powerful and entrenched forces on the right. So my hats off to everyone associated with Cosmos for their very courageous stand. I wish you all, er, Godspeed.
