From Newsdays david criblez: Tap into your inner riot grrrl by viewing a screening of The Punk Singer, a documentary on the life of Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of Bikini Kill and wife of Beastie Boy Adam Ad-Rock Horovitz, at Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington on Wednesday. Director Sini Anderson, 44, of Brooklyn, takes you through Hannas music career, health struggles and ultimate return to the stage. Kathleen does this amazing job of being very real with her experiences and then turning them into works of art, says Anderson, who will do a Q&A session with the audience via Skype after the film. People are inspired by her. Oftentimes shes singing about what they cant talk about. In the film, Hanna opens up about her personal life. Theres so much strength in her vulnerability, says Anderson. I hope it inspires other people, if they are in safe company, to be vulnerable and find empowerment.
