From my friend Jennifer: ***Warning: Former Prosecutor Rant *** So there is a video of Ray Rice punching his now wife in the elevator and the NFL is under renewed scrutiny. I am glad that people are talking about this. But did we really need this new video footage to be horrified by what he did??? We saw the aftermath -- him dragging her unconscious body out of the elevator. We had her statement of what happened and his admission (to a misdemeanor, no less). Logical deduction told us exactly what happened in that elevator and the amount of force that must have been levied. Sadly, this case is relatively tame compared to domestic scenarios played out across the country and world every.single.day. And the dance is almost always the same: the victims apology for her role in the incident. The publics suspicion that the victim brought it on or is somehow responsible for being punched in the face (or worse). The victim returning to her abuser, refusing to testify.
