From my inbox...I have seen posts from social workers on here saying they do NOT receive benefits, and believe me Dorie Skloss I am NOT sheltered, I live in a town where I am the minority, and in my neighborhood, I have no neighbors who even speak english. I have watched good people, who work hard for what little they have, multiple families in one small home so they can afford to even survive, terrified that they will be deported and separated from their children who are American citizens. I have seen times when my American neighbors would ignore me when I was desperately in need, while my hispanic neighbors bend over backwards to help me, even if they couldnt understand my words. I watched my best friend, an American, who was dying of pancreatic cancer, worry while her husband fought and spent money they couldnt afford, in order to obtain citizenship so she could stop worrying about what would happen to him after she died (Even though they were legally married and deeply in love).
