From my sister Rachel Pastiloff Health Coach. Please share. My thoughts today. Please read: In Georgia 1 in 42 kids have autism. Globally every year 1 in 15,000 kids are born with Prader Willi Syndrome. There is an increase in Down Syndrome, previously 1 in 1,000 births, now 1 in every 691 births. Cerebral Palsy is now estimated at 1 in 323 children every year in the United States. Now, for example, the numbers of Down Syndrome, is 1 in every 691 births. How many of you have more than 600 friends on your Facebook page? Probably a lot of you. This means that you, most likely, know somebody who has a child or loved one with Down Syndrome. Let’s get even closer: Autism with 1 in 42 kids in GA is diagnosed every year. I know all of you have more than 42 friends on your FB page. This means that almost all of you should, at this point, know somebody with a child with Autism in this country. This being said, I am looking to you for help. I am looking for you, my friends and family, to start the ball rolling. After; yet, another disgraceful incident at a restaurant today with my kids--1 of mine with special needs and another family friend with a special needs child--I am absolutely done with our kids being treated like a circus side-show (as my friend put it). So maybe you are doing right in the world. You are kind to special needs families and you are teaching your kids to be kind, but; do you know somebody who isnt? Are you willing to stand up and help be the change? Is it a friend, or maybe an uncle, who you know is unkind to families like mine? Can you help by standing up and declaring that it isnt right? We need to, as a society, realize that these numbers will continue to go up. If you havent talked to your kids about Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy or, what it means to be blind or deaf, do it now. Soon they will be in school with a child with special needs. Help them be leaders in the acceptance movement. My child has every right to be in public, play on the playground, go to the store or a movie. My child is not an animal that needs to be locked up. In this world there will be more and more children like my child every year. Knowledge is power. Teach your children now what it is to be different: That different is OK. To ask questions is OK. Help start this today. I beg of you, even if its your best friend who is unkind to special needs families, stand up and do the right thing. Maybe these people need to know that ugly starts on the inside. That is all. #stopstaringatmychild #uglystartsontheinside #specialneedkidsarentcircusfreaks #acceptancenow
