From teachers/colleagues at the school I work : I thought Id pass something very exciting along! Kyle Stewart and I created and implemented a Rant assignment for the 4U English level using Rick Mercers rants as a basis. I wrote Rick Mercers people and asked if he would be able to give the kids a few tips on how to rant and the importance of having a student voice. I was going out on a limb and didnt expect a reply (some people laughed at me when I said I emailed him!) They immediately wrote back and said Rick would love to create a video specifically designed for Georgetown students if I let them know what Id like him to address. I asked him to discuss the importance of having an educated opinion and getting your voice out there, even as a teenager. Attached is the video Rick made for GDHS. I hope you can use it in your class at some point to show them that even Rick Mercer thinks a student voice is important!
