From the archives: Many of you would have heard this before. This is an (excellent)example of how religion has over millennia influenced culture(in this case, positively). It is often linked to culture. Religious-culture, as I call it. Now, one doesnt have to have faith in Jesus as lord, or believe in a messiah to appreciate this music partly or completely. But the failure to understand exactly this point, is a failing of current atheism. We throw the baby out with the bath water and end up looking and seeming bitter and angry(part of which is understandable). This chorus represents the elevation of the martyr-Christ and what he is supposed to have represented above and beyond everything else. Now there are a couple of beliefs relating to armageddon and hell that are horrid. But more than enough good teachings here as long as we dont buy into any ideas on faith, and read this like any literature, well be all right. Dare I say it, Hallelujah!
