From the #crazy #idea department Im wondering how many out there have #farm #stores up and running, and what sort of systems they have used to operate and manage them? Ive been pondering what were going to do when we set up a farm store in a couple years, and I am seriously considering doing the entire store on the honour system. Ill set up a till and pay terminal for credit/debit transactions and just keep things stocked, but not bother staffing the store. Just open and close it at the set hours. Customers can come in, buy, and leave as they see fit. I know that a certain amount of theft is going to happen, and that at times people will be short and under pay. But I also know people will at times over pay. I figure until we start posting $30,000 in losses (the wage cost to have someone in the store all the time) wed still be coming out ahead by not manning the store. Id include a walkie-talkie to page us as were out and about on the farm so if customers want a tour or to chat they can get ahold of us. What level of bonkers would this be?
