Fundraiser set up to help pay for service dogs surgery GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) - Friends of a Greenville woman who was disabled after a car crash are raising money to help pay for a surgery her service dog needs to survive. Susan Fakkema has been a dog trainer for more than 30 years and works as a cashier at Petco in Greenville, according to her friend Ashley Clement. Clement said Fakkema was badly injured in a car accident and has to wear leg braces in order to move around. Fakkema adopted her service dog Slider after the crash and trained him herself, Clement said. Slider assists his master with day-to-day activities such as crossing the street, picking up things that were dropped, turning on lights and opening doors. Recently, the 7-year old certified service dog was diagnosed with a paraprostatic cyst and needs immediate surgery, according to Clement. If he doesnt get the procedure, Clement said the cyst may rupture and cause bacteria to spread throughout his body. Clement said Fakkemas friends are hoping to raise $1,500 to help pay for the veterinary expenses through the crowd funding web site YouCaring before the dogs surgery in April. So far theyre raised more than $925 out of $2,000 goal To make a donation to help, please click on this you caring link! youcaring/pet-expenses/help-slider-steal-home-/154588.
