GAME OF THE MONTH: RIDGE RACER - PLAYSTATION If you are going to launch a new games console with almost no real experience with making videogames then you had better make some fantastic exclusive deals with popular developers. Sony certainly did when they partnered with NAMCO to have this as the launch title for the console that would rule them all the mighty Sony Playstation. Released in Japan in December 1994 this arcade conversion was (resolution aside) nearly identical to its big brother on Sonys 32-Bit global monster console. With a soundtrack that made your heart pound and your ears bleed and so much speed you could get arrested by the police for being in possession (lol) this blew gamers away with just how much more powerful the new 32-Bit super console was. Ridge Racer is the game that walked the PS1 into so many homes in Japan that it caused hardware stock shortages for nearly 6 months and also because of that mania helped push the pre-launch hysteria worldwide into important regions like North America where customers raced into stores to put some cash down on one of these bad boys. So why not party hard 1994 style and give this iconic game another go today, it still has all the magic and wonder it had when it first burst onto the scene, great games remain great games forever!
