GINAL LOPEZ -- COUP ABETTER! Unwittingly (perhaps, witlessly may be more apt) Ms. Gina Lopez has become an abetter of coup attempts. In suggesting that we need not take the Constitution too seriously as long as presidential action is for the common good, then she has in fact undermined the constitutionalism on which our body-politic rests. You cannot thumb your nose at the constitution, and then cite its provisions when the storms of lawlessness hit you. When we are willing to bend the provisions of the Constitution for the common good (itself a troublesome concept in the hands of troublemakers), then you must be prepared to bend the provisions of the Bill of Rights as well. You are also making the claim that when coup plotters think that they are championing the common good by plotting to take over the government, you cannot be duplicitous, and by your own logic, you must commend their efforts to champion the common good. After all, the Constitution should not just be paper work. See how dangerous this unenlightened remarks can be!
