GOES-14 is again operating in Super Rapid Scan Operations for GOES-R (SRSOR) to provide special 1-minute imagery to allow special data set collections for GOES-R algorithm developers, research partners, forecasters and Proving Ground participants. This experiment began on May 8 and will run until May 22. Of particular interest yesterday (May 8) was the rapidly-developing convection that produced 2 separate tornadoes in southern Minnesota. In this case, a 3-panel GOES-14 visible channel comparison of the standard 15-minute scan imagery, the Rapid Scan Operations (RSO) imagery, and the SRSOR imagery really highlights the fact that the formation and evolution of the rapidly-developing convection was much more evident and easy to follow with the 1-minute imagery. Additional information about the spring 2014 SRSOR experiment can be found at cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/srsor2014/GOES-14_SRSOR.html. The GOES-R Proving Ground Hazardous Weather Testbed is also using the SRSOR imagery in demonstrations for the 2014 Spring Experiment. Follow along at goesrhwt.blogspot/
