GRANDPARENT SCAM: The Omaha Police Department has issued a warning about a rash of scams targeting Omaha metro area seniors, called the grandparent scam. According to OPD Detective Rick Belik, the scammer will call the victim claiming to be a grandchild in legal trouble and they need money sent or wired to bond out of whatever jail that they are in. Belik says one 93-year-old victim was scammed for $33,500; another person was in the process of withdrawing $100,000 when her banker intervened. Questions or concerns? Call the Omaha Police Department at (402) 444-5626 or the Better Business Bureau Senior Hotline at (877) 637-3334.
