GRIFFITH LOCAL AREA COMMAND MEDIA BRIEFING Issued at 1.00am Monday 12 May 2014 About 5.00pm Sunday 11 May 2014 a 43 year old female from Yoogali was travelling in a south westerly direction on Ortella Street Griffith in a Holden Commodore sedan. At the intersection of Ortella Street and Wyangan Avenue the driver proceeded onto the roundabout, resulting in a bicycle being ridden on Wyangan Avenue by a 40 year old female from Griffith colliding with the driver’s side front door of the Commodore. The rider of the bicycle was injured in the collision and was conveyed to Griffith Base Hospital where she was undergoing medical examination. Inquiries will continue regarding the crash. - - - Between 6.00pm Thursday 8 May 2014 and 7.00am Friday 9 May 2014 entry was gained to a rear garage at a Langley Crescent residence. A number of tools were taken from the garage. A holder for a chisel was located on the front lawn of the residence and a number of other items were disturbed in the garage, but not stolen. - - - Between 6.00pm Thursday 8 May 2014 and 7.00am Friday 9 May 2014 entry was forced to a rear shed at a business premises on Blumer Avenue Griffith. Two lawn mowers were stolen from the shed. One lawn mower is red and new in condition. The other lawn mower is silver and is older. It is believed that the offenders have wheeled the lawn mowers away along the railway line in a westerly direction. If anyone saw any suspicious activity in this area they are urged to contact Griffith Police on 6969 4299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. - - - Between 11.00pm Thursday 8 May 2014 and 6.00am Friday 9 May 2014 entry was forced into an outdoor area at a residence in Duff Place Griffith. A black Cannondale Mountain bike was stolen from the room, as well as a number of bottles of beer. The offender has then entered a garage where they opened a vehicle and rummaged through the interior, but have not stolen any property. - - - About 12.30pm Sunday 11 May 2014 a 14 year old male and an 11 year old male, both from Hillston were riding trail bikes on a track parallel to the Kidman Way Hillston, north of Cowper Street. On a sweeping bend the motorcycles have approached each other from opposite directions and collided. As a result both riders were thrown from their motorcycles. The boys were conveyed to Griffith Base Hospital by Ambulance where x-rays were conducted and the boys were admitted for observation. - - - About 12.10pm Sunday 11 May 2014 a witness heard an alarm sounding at a business in Wade Avenue South, Leeton. The witness described a male with fair skin, facial stubble, wearing a grey beanie, grey jumper and light coloured pants at the premises. The male was seen to leave. Police attended a short time later and established that a front window at the premises had been smashed, and it appeared that entry had been gained. A representative from the business attended the premises, which were searched. It does not appear that any items were stolen. - - - About 1.30am Sunday 11 May 2014 a witness heard loud banging coming from a residence at Elizabeth Street Narrandera and saw three young males wearing dark clothing leaving the premises carrying items. The offenders were seen to run from the area towards Narrandera East Primary School. Witnesses chased the males on foot, but lost them near Narrandera High School. Police attended the premises and discovered that entry had been gained to the home through a small side window. It is unclear at this time what property has been stolen. - - - About 11.35pm Saturday 10 May 2014 Police were called to a licensed premises on Racecourse Road Leeton in relation to a male person refusing to leave. Upon Police arrival they were informed that a 24 year old male from Leeton had been at a function at the premises when he became involved in a disagreement with another patron. The male had been directed to leave by staff because of his behaviour. The male left the premises in a vehicle, but about 15 minutes later returned to the front area of the premises. The male was again directed to leave the area, but refused. When Police arrived they observed the male outside the premises seat in a vehicle. The male will be issued with an infringement notice for Excluded Person re enter the vicinity of a licensed premises. - - - A 25 year old Leeton man has been arrested and charged with domestic violence related assault after an argument about 9.30am on Saturday 10 May 2014 with his partner turned violent. It is alleged that male grabbed the victim by the throat and pushed her to the ground. The male continue to yell at the victim while standing over her. When the male moved away the victim ran to a neighbour’s house for help and Police were contacted. A number of children were present in the home when the assault occurred. The male was arrested nearby and conveyed to Leeton Police Station where he was charged. Police emphasise that domestic violence in any form will not be tolerated. Victims of domestic violence can contact the Domestic Violence Line for assistance or advice 24 hours, seven days a week on 1800 656 463, or contact their local Police. - - - Between 4.00pm Friday 9 May 2014 and 9.50am Saturday 10 May 2014 entry was forced to premises in Mulga Street Leeton through the front door. No property was stolen as the premises are currently vacant. - - - About 8.40am Saturday 10 May 2014 a 20 year old local male was stopped driving a vehicle on Whitton Street Narrandera. Inquiries revealed that the driver’s license was currently suspended. The driver was issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear at Narrandera Local Court on 20 June 2014. Also, a 19 year old Dubbo male was issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear at Narrandera Local Court on 20 June 2014 after he was stopped for a random breath test on the Sturt Highway Gillenbah about 11.45am Friday 9 May 2014. The vehicle was not displaying any P plates and inquiries revealed that the driver’s license is suspended. - - - West Wyalong Police are investigating a report of an assault at a hotel in West Wyalong about 12.20am on Sunday 11 May 2014. Police were at the premises conducting an inspection when they became aware of a fight on the dance floor. Both parties were spoken to and claimed to be the victim in the assault. Police are conducting further inquiries to establish the details of the incident. - - - About 1.45am on Saturday 10 May 2014 Police stopped a motor vehicle on Ungarie Road West Wyalong for a random breath test. The driver, a 32 year old local male returned a positive roadside result. The driver was arrested and conveyed to West Wyalong Police Station to undergo a breath analysis. At the station the driver failed to supply a sufficient sample of breath on three occasions.
