GROWING IN CHRIST "Proclaiming Christ" Titus 3:9 “But avoid - TopicsExpress

GROWING IN CHRIST "Proclaiming Christ" Titus 3:9 “But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.” (NIV) Do you find it easy to talk about Jesus Christ, His redeeming work, and the change He has made in you, or is it more comfortable to talk about innocuous topics and religious differences? This verse highlights the importance of staying on mission. Mission keeps you focused on what Christ is doing in your life and how He desires to use you in the lives of others. Living a life that stays on mission or a life that is quickly sucked into spurious conversations about politics, beliefs, dislikes, etc. will determine how Christ is proclaimed through you. Paul proclaims in Philippians 1:18, “Whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice, yes, and I will rejoice.” There is nothing wrong with talking politics or engaging in conversations on today’s issues, but the question is whether they quickly become a substitute to proclaiming Christ. Are you more comfortable and satisfied with engaging in specious conversation, or is your mission to bring every conversation back to Christ? 2 Timothy 2:16 warns, “But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness.” Too often we engage in these trivial conversations with never a thought of interjecting how Christ impacts the subject of your conversation. Being silent about Christ might reflect a lack of confidence of Who Christ is and the work He is doing in you. You change this by going deep in the Word and being in constant prayer with your heavenly Father every day resulting in God’s transforming life flowing from you. In 2 Corinthians 3:2-3, Paul tells the church in Corinth that, “You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” Christ’s life in you will make it easier to interject Christ into your conversations. Pray daily for wisdom, insight, and opportunities for setting forth Christ whenever possible. Matthew 10:19-20 “But when they deliver you up, do not become anxious about how or what you will speak; for it shall be given you in that hour what you are to speak. For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” (NASB)
